He Spent 20Years On Death Row For The Murder Of A Man Who Wasn't Dead

A Ugandan taxi driver Mpagi Edward Edmary, was sentenced to death in 1982 for the brutal murder of his neighbour despite his plea of innocence.

It turned out that Edward's claim of innocence was not only genuine but there hadn't even been a murder. The victim had been framed after a land dispute between families in the village got out of hand.

Several false witnesses who were bribed reportedly stood up an claimed that they had seen him kill the man and dispose of the body.
In consequence, Edward spent the next 20 years in Kampala's notorious Luzira prison and was only released when his family proved that the dead man had been hiding out in another part of the country.
